Grace & Incentives

On today’s podcast I share about some of my challenges with ADHD. Sound quality could be better, but I’m giving myself grace because I did show up and worked through an uncomfortable moment right on the podcast.

hard on ourselves.
In any given moment,
we are doing our best. And ‘best’ fluctuates
given our priorities, challenges, and energy. So let’s be kinder to ourselves.”

I also share about keeping a cool commitment I made to myself—an incentive I promised I’d do if I was courageous enough to try something challenging.

This episode is a great one for getting to know me a little better AND if you/someone you know struggles with ADHD/neurodivergent challenges, you may relate/get a better understanding of what it’s like.

The episode is light so don’t worry I’m not having an episode that would be uncomfortable to listen to at all. Just me being me, storytelling, and sharing. Check it out.

Blessings!

From Fear to Curiosity

Lately, I’ve been trying something new when anxiety shows up. It’s been really helpful and I share about it on today’s podcast.

Meme: Image: close up of 4 cornbread muffins Text states: “Overcoming perfectionism can be challenging. One helpful practice is to find ways to replace fear with curiosity. Try incorporating a new affirmation, “Let’s see what happens.”

I remember hearing the late Dr. Wayne Dyer teaching about fear, and he said to try replacing fear with curiosity. Even though I heard that so long ago, I didn’t embrace it until VERY recently. And the results have been sooo cool.

Yesterday, I was using my GPS to find a place I’ve been wanting to visit. I was in a rush so I didn’t double check the map was taking me to my intended spot. I was in traffic so I couldn’t really make any adjustments to my phone so I just decided to go where it took me. (That’s not something I’d usually do.) I knew something was off because the directions were telling me to go left when I knew the location should be toward my right. I also could tell that the pin (or whatever it’s called) indicating my arrival was showing up way too soon. And I was p*ssed.

Then, I thought about my intention to be in a good mood, to “joyfully go through my day.” So I took a deep breath and decided to just go with it. I thought, “Yeah, this isn’t where I was planning to go, but what if it’s better? What if the Universe intervened, knowing something I don’t know?” I relaxed, made that left turn, saw that the place was the same kind of establishment, and found a parking space. I went in and it was exactly the kind of spot I really wanted. And I’m pretty sure that this place will cost less than the one I was try to visit, AND it’s closer to me so I it won’t be so inconvenient getting there and back.

I’m so glad I leaned in to the moment and decided to not remain angry about things going wrong. (BTW anger is a secondary emotion, and fear is often the emotion that came before it.) I am so grateful I shifted to curiosity because it worked out great. I plan to revisit the spot for real today and see if I like it. (See what I did there. I ignored the thought that said, “What if it just looked good, but it actually sucks?” And then decided that I can go for a longer time today and investigate.) I don’t have to do it perfectly. Yesterday’s decision to give this place a try doesn’t have to be my final decision. I can just “try it on” and see if it fits.

So glad I decided to share that story with you. I just gained an additional lesson! AND this is not the story I shared on the podcast so check it out so you can hear my story that goes with the image above.

Thanks for being here.

Blessings!

Celebrate Your Small Wins, Too

A great recipe for living a miserable life is to only celebrate the big wins.

Honesty moment…. ADHD has been off the charts today. Focus has been effortful. So I’m not gonna write a long description. Took everything to get this much done.

Check out today’s podcast. You’ll get to witness #ADHDbelike in all it’s glory. 😂 I’m too tired to edit so let me just say, “Whoops,” in advance to whatever you end up hearing. 😂

It Takes Time to Shift Beliefs

Sometimes it takes waaay longer than we’d expect to unlearn what we’ve learned.

Let that be okay. It takes as long as it takes. The journey is part of your story.”

Today, I received one of those “on this day ___ years ago” memories in my newsfeed. I was in awe at how relevant it was, given the inner work I had been doing earlier. The post (a series of inspirational memes) was so aligned.

As I read through them, I realized that I am just now embracing the messages on them. It took me 7 years to embrace the message that I posted back then.

So on today’s podcast, I talk about what that’s like to accept that part of our journey is it’s length. We are often focused on achievements and destinations—the day that we can do, have, and be what we want. And we don’t often realize that a huge part of why we’re here and living out our purpose is really in the process. The lessons we learn along the way, and the experiences that get us to the point of learning/unlearning are part of the journey, too.

When we take a road trip, the bulk of the trip is the process of getting there. The actual arrival is just a few seconds. And I’m learning, even today, how important it is to stop hating ourselves for still being on the road.

It takes as long as it takes.

So… check out today’s podcast. I’m being me so it’s not heavy, cussing plenty, and giggling throughout.

Enjoy and I hope you gain some encouragement for your journey. Much love to you.

Blessings!
