Releasing Panic: Stay in Today

“Much of who we are is actually just trauma responses masquerading as personality. AND we get to heal.” Marlene Dillon Empowerment Specialist. mdillondesigns.com/blog

Today, I found myself feeling really stressed and “off,” so I decided to follow intuition and seek higher guidance. The way I do this is by having a journal conversation between myself and… myself. lol Within us dwells a knowing, a higher self and periodically (not as often as I could), I tap into this knowing and ask for guidance.

The paragraphs below is an excerpt from my actual journal conversation. There may be typos and grammatical errors. Actually, I’m certain of it. And I wanted to maintain the integrity of the experience so I’m leaving it as is. Well, enjoy. I hope you gain something from it.

Releasing Panic: Stay in today.

And what does that mean?

It means that I don’t have to go into a panic and imagine everything going wrong, because I’m not going to do this right, or have this, or know that. I can choose to relax today and see the future as less than doom, dread, and things destined to go wrong and choose to release it for today and set a positive intention that I am fully supported to achieve. I don’t have to have a pleasant idea and immediately tear it down with all that can go wrong. I can savor it and picture it as I want it and stay calm about it, knowing that with my calmness comes clarity. I’ll know what to do and what my next steps are if I just breathe and enjoy the idea of it for a while. And that’s okay to do. I don’t have to go into immediate “how” mode. I can stay for a while and savor the moment. I can calm down and imagine it going exactly right and the pleasure of that.

And maybe if that feels hard, I can start to process what began the process of panicking when a new fun idea comes up. Could it be that in childhood whenever a new fun idea came up I only had so much time to figure out how I would get my parents to say, “Yes,” and how I needed to quickly discover every one of their possible objections and find solutions for them all BEFORE asking. And could it be that with all that groundwork, I still more often than not still heard, “No.” Could it be that I am in adulthood reacting to the repeated trauma of not getting what I wanted, even though I did everything right? Could it be that my heart is racing and my breathing is shallow because I realize how important this thing is to someone and I don’t want to disappoint them so I’m doing all I can to make sure it works out by preparing from now to make it happen?

Is that possible? Does that help you breathe better? Does understanding make it make more sense? Okay, good. Now, breathe. Remember you’re an adult with no one to answer to. AND before you go seeking out the details, rest. Just savor the idea of things working out, today. Let it go for today. Calm yourself. Breathe. Everything is going to be okay. Okay?

So this is what it looks like to talk myself down from a panic moment. This is not a staged panic to give you an example. This is my actual work to calm myself about something my daughter wants that I went into immediate single mom panic about being able to afford. But today, I decided to follow higher guidance and journal it out rather than let all that anxiety sit in my body. And I’m glad I did.

Blessings!

What Do You See For Yourself?

As I study different teachings to make sense of life, I am coming to realize that my life is as at is largely because that’s how I envision it.

Press play to listen to today’s podcast. FYI I cuss so wait ’til the kids and elders aren’t around. Blessings!

Yeah, I have dreams and goals (that look nothing like my current experience of life), but when I look into the future, I find it challenging to actually see them happening. I’m just being honest.

I have come to realize that how I view life showing up for me, and how I view people showing up for me, and even how I view myself showing up in life, is primarily what I experience. I realize now that if I shift my expectations and what I envision, then I can also shift my experiences. Our minds are that powerful.

So today’s podcast episode is all about this concept. And I’m telling you this from now, #ADHD was in rare form today but I did a great job of editing things so that despite my challenges with focus, the episode flowed semi-seamlessly, and I think it’s very thought provoking, and potentially… perspective-shifting.

It’s a great episode—an empowering one if you feel that the life you desire is not the experience you’re currently having. I give you some stuff to think about that I’m currently working on, as a result of a cool book series I’m checking out.

Anywho, if any of this resonates, or is mildly intriguing, give it a listen. Press play above or check out the links below.

Blessings!

I Remember You, but I Don’t Miss You

“When pleasant memories from our past resurface, we often forget what it was about the connection that caused the disconnection.” — Marlene Dillon Empowerment Specialist

Press play to listen to today’s podcast. FYI I cuss so wait ’til the kids and elders aren’t around. Blessings!

Sometimes we find ourselves in cycles with people. We connect, it’s awesome, something happens, we disconnect, time passes, we miss them or they reach out, we reconnect, and the cycle repeats.

I’ve done it too many times. I’ve even initiated the cycle…. plenty of times. I missed them. I reached out. And it was good… until it wasn’t. I’m so done with that cycle. If it’s over, I’m letting it stay that way.

I had to teach myself that there’s a difference between missing someone, and remembering them. To me, “I miss you,” means I want you back in my life. So, now, when I catch myself reminiscing, and that affirmation, “I miss him/her/them,” comes up, I correct myself. No, “I remember them.”

I might wish that the good aspects of who they are, or what we shared, could be back in my life, but the reality is that they don’t show up with just the good. All of it’s part of them. They’re not cutting off a part of themselves, or their personality, or their tendencies. We’re getting all of it. And if I don’t want all of it, I don’t want none of it. Stay over there.

Today’s podcast episode is one that’s been in the works for a while…. The message has been in my mind for some time, but recent events gave me the missing piece to really drive this concept home.

It’s a good one. If you’ve never listened, or even if you have before, this is a good time to check out my podcast. Summer is coming, the weather is changing, and the chance of running into people from the past is increasing.

If you have a tendency to rerun relationships, this one’s for you. And if you have a friend/family/co-worker who tends to do this, share it with them. I think it can help.

Blessings!
