So a few days ago, I shared a post about an anti bucket list… to make a list of things we need to stop doing. Well, this morning, I woke up and listened to this Abraham-Hicks recording I felt guided to check out. From that I decided that in order for me to get better at being happy and remaining that way, it will be helpful to develop a list of things I do that make me stop being happy.

Oddly, I got to see one right out the gate. It’s a funny thing that happens when we decide to become aware of our tendencies that don’t serve us. We get answers and sometimes quicker than we anticipate.
So you know how I do a #danceoutofbedsong most mornings? Well, if not, the short version is that I was tired of waking up pissed and anxious about my day so I started to be intentional about starting my day with good vibes. So I put a song on before I get out of bed that makes me want to dance. I get my energy right, stretch, sit on the side of the bed moving to the beat and getting alert, and before the song ends I’m to be two feet on the floor dancing. It’s a GREAT way to start the day. Sometimes, like today, I hop up naturally for one reason or another, but I tend to still grab a song to dance to before I start my day. I listen with my noise cancelling headphones while I prep for the day, make breakfast smoothies, etc.
Anywho, back to the list. So you know what happened this morning? Right after I decided that I was going to make an Unhappy List—not a list of things that make me unhappy, cuz that’s a slippery slope into the depression quicksand. The UnHappy List is taking note of the things that I do, the ways that I think, the stuff I let get to me that kicks me out of my happy mood. Because for someone with the intention to be happy and more peaceful, I oddly find myself pissed multiple times a day. (Yeah, me too. Miss Empowerment Specialist. We all have things to work through. This is ONE of mine. 😆)
So since it’s my intention to enjoy my life more (starting) this year, I thought this is a perfect way to focus intentionally on increasing my joy. Again for clarity, I’m not looking for reasons to be unhappy. The law of attraction was send me a sh*tstorm of bullsh*t so quick!
No, I’m just going through my day naturally and when I catch myself feeling suddenly pissed/annoyed, I’m taking note of what I did in my thoughts that caused me to feel that way.
For example, I’m in my happy place. I put on my headphones, put my “Mommy Only Dance Party” playlist on that I created many years ago with all the songs I listen to that I LOVE that I couldn’t listen to around my child (well, at that time). 😆 These songs were a revival for me, snatching me out of that world where the Fresh Beat Band, Elmo, and Yo Gabba Gabba (all kids shows/characters at the time) were the nonstop playlist.
I needed songs Like DMX’s “Here Comes the Boom” and Lil Wayne’s “6 Foot 7” and some Lil John music to remind me that being a mom is part of who I am, not the totality.
Anyway, THE POINT. (Blame my preacher daddy… longwinded naturally. 😂) So I’m posting my #danceoutofbedsong this morning, while I’m listening to it. And this is what my mind did….
“Well, you definitely need to let them know this song is explicit. Oh wow. Did you hear what he just said? You should probably also let them know the lyrics might be a bit misogynistic. I mean, some of your friends might be offended by the lyrics. Maybe you should watch the video and see what’s going on there….” And so on. 🙄
Before long I was feeling off and wondering if my song was going to upset people rather than uplift and if I needed to add a long explanation with the video link! Then, I snapped out of it. I caught what my mind was doing!
Earlier this year, on my daily podcast (Share and Let’s Live!), I shared that when we start to pay attention to the shifts in our moods, we get to see what thoughts are impacting us. It’s a great way to become aware of what we’re doing (that we don’t realize we’re doing) that causes us to feel bad.
We get to have more control of our emotions, when we start to pay attention to our thoughts. If this is an area where you’d like more control—and you’re tired of being on an emotional rollercoaster—start paying attention to your moods.
Don’t just accept that you’re a “moody person.” Start paying attention. You were just happy, now you’re sad. What were just thinking about? You went from calm to pissed. What were just thinking about?
We have more control than we think. The more that we’re aware of our shifts, the more we’re aware of our thoughts. The more we notice our thoughts, the more we recognize patterns of thought. Now, when we start thinking in certain ways, we catch them right away, before we’re deep in them. It all starts with awareness.
Day 27 “Right Now I’m Good” #IMAYBE Share & Let’s Live! #Podcast Series w/ Marlene Dillon Empowerment Specialist
When I stay in today, I can see how much I have to be grateful for. When I try to figure out how things will work down the road, I’m anxious, because I don’t have the answers.

Today, I realized that the best thing I can do for myself is to try my best to remain focused on what matters right now in this moment. I used to feel that “serving two masters” was about religious choices. However today, I got to see another way of viewing it.
As I stressed myself out earlier trying to address tomorrow’s problems with today’s resources, I saw that I was attempting something impossible. Today, I got a new outlook… as I was serving two masters by attempting to be in two places at once.
I was living in today, with the resources needed for today. And rather than be grateful that I had what I needed for today, I was stressed out trying to figure how to get today’s resources to solve next month’s problems. When I let that go, and accepted that next month will take care of itself, I realized I had so much to be grateful for. I had more than enough for today’s needs.
Today was an eye-opening episode. To hear the full story and the lessons I gained, check out today’s podcast!
