What About Our Choices?

When you’re an intelligent person and find yourself in a stupid situation, it’s hard not to feel like an idiot. However, what I realized today, is that manipulative people are phenomenal at using various tools to work around a person’s intelligence. They get crafty to get what they want.

“Society programs women to prioritize being chosen. We’re not often taught that it’s safe and right to choose.... Let ‘em call you ‘picky.’ Choice is empowerment.”

Woke up and had the weirdest experience, that allowed me to see something that I never noticed before.

I ended up coming across something I wrote many years ago (it was like an essay or well-written journal entry) that gave me insight into how I ended up in relationship with my narcissistic ex. After reading through this document that I don’t remember writing, I was able to—with my current awareness—see how I ended up in that toxic situation.

If you’ve ever looked back on a relationship and wondered, “How could I be so stupid?” or “How the heck did I get fooled by that idiot?” I’ll share with you one of my major takeaways. When a person sees that we’re smart, they may tap into our emotions instead to bypass our intelligence.

When a person sees that we’re smart, they may tap into our emotions instead to bypass our intelligence.

Anywho, I’m so grateful I was up scrolling FB early this morning and came across a post that led me to stumble upon this document. It led me on a journey that led to some deeper healing. I realized I wasn’t playing the fool, although I was played by one. I wasn’t using my intelligence. I was following my heart…. and my heart was being manipulated.

I also discovered that the groundwork for this person was already laid. All they had to do was tap into it.

I share all about this on today’s podcast. This is a powerful episode. Listen above or below.

Becoming My Truest Self

by Marlene Dillon

“I love the me I am now, and who I’m becoming. I move different. I think different. I choose myself now. And I no longer tolerate BS.”
— Marlene Dillon Empowerment Specialist

I love the me I am now and who I’m becoming…

It’s a beautiful thing to look back on old posts and (yeah, cringe at first, lol) see I’m not her anymore. It’s not necessary to shame myself for who I was. It’s a great opportunity to choose pride over shame.

I feel proud of my growth. I love that things I would’ve tolerated in the past, could never be a part of my life now. I love that the me I once was has evolved so much that decisions I made just years ago would be a “HELL NO!” for me today.

I am so in love with myself and that’s growing every single day. I’m learning to give myself grace, to love myself into change (rather than bully myself into it). I’m being gentle with myself, and supporting my inner child, when things are scary and new. I’m accepting that I am exactly where I’m supposed to be, doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing, and it’s all good.

I am relaxing more, and when I find that hard I tap into my supports and practices, or lean on the universe for guidance and back up. I’m learning to accept me, for me. I’m releasing the need to be like others. I’m learning to love my uniqueness in more ways than my natural hair.

I am growing in not needing external approval, although I give myself grace to enjoy it when it comes. I am remembering who I was before the programming… before all I wanted was acceptance… back when I was aware of my greatness and fully confused at how anyone else could miss it.

I’m getting back to her… I’m getting back to me, WHILE bringing all the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

I am trusting the divinity of me and embracing the truth of that one moment at a time.

I am on a journey of becoming ME—not a better version, but my truest version.

My inner child feels loved and I feel optimistic.

The tough stuff won’t stop me. I’m gonna be alright.

Blessings!

Burnout: Time to Prioritize YOU

We make time for everybody…. their emergencies, their emotions, their needs, wants, and priorities.

“When we find ourselves feeling rundown & resentful of those we love, it’s a sign that we need to prioritize ourselves.”

Some of us will only slow down if illness takes us down. We secretly smile from our sick bed because we finally have a reason… the right to say, “No.”

Yeah, we know we’re supposed to take better care of ourselves. Yeah, we know that we need to set better boundaries. But you know what nobody tells you? It’s hard as hell to set and hold boundaries when you’re exhausted.

It’s easy when you’re refreshed and restored to say, “Hey, buddy. No. I’m not doing that.” But when you’re tired and you just don’t have the emotional or mental reserve to deal with the pushback or backlash or the unpleasant emotional response of another human, it’s sooo easy to slip back into that default setting… the people pleasing, the saying, “Yes,” when you want to say, “No,” the going along with plans you don’t agree with… The stuff you said you were going to stop doing. The stuff you actually did stop doing….

If this is resonating with you, you are possibly at a point where you need to muster up the extra energy to acknowledge it’s time to start saying, “No,” again. It’s time to get by yourself and regroup. It’s time to put yourself on your schedule, rest, recoop, or even create a plan for how you can just veg out for a few hours.

Don’t wait for illness or some other unfortunate circumstance to come and rescue you. You deserve the you that you offer to everyone else. Be your own your own advocate. Whether it’s 15 minutes or 15 days, pour back into yourself. It’s time.

I understand. I’m at that point right now. I share about it on today’s podcast, along with some helpful information and tips, and of course… storytelling. Hope this helps.
