“A huge part of my healing journey has been in accepting that much of what I believed are my character flaws, are actually common signs of executive dysfunction and neurodivergence.” —Marlene Dillon Empowerment Specialist

Today, I couldn’t sleep… well, wouldn’t sleep… due to anxiety. Let’s just say that just because my body doesn’t muster up the energy and focus to complete a task doesn’t mean I don’t experience anxiety knowing it’s not done. And when there enough of those not done things, and some of them are really important, I find myself up late working (or just staring/scrolling) because somewhere in there a part of me believes the energy, focus, and drive are still on the way. Don’t want to close up shop too early. AND the other part of me feels I haven’t earned sleep… that I don’t deserve it because I didn’t do enough.
Yeah, saying that feels really sad and honestly like self-abuse. Denying someone sleep is a form of abuse. Verbally attacking someone for their shortcomings is completely unacceptable. However, we do it constantly to ourselves….
When we take a second to step back and actually process through our self-criticism, and challenges with self-love, we may discover that it didn’t begin with us.
We can see ourselves so differently. We can see how we pressed through, showed up, and overcame so much….
I’ll just leave it there….
